This workhorse film enjoyed a long and storied life for its (almost) unique feature among instant films - it produced a negative in addition to the print. Users of this film often carefully peeled the print so as not to lose the paper artifacts attached to the negative. This distinctive edge texture became a major feature in popular culture in the 1990s and early 2000s and uniquely identified a photograph as "Shot on Polaroid."

Polaroid's 4x5" format sheet films were among the first invented by Dr. Land and his team, way back in the late 1940s. Although they never achieved the mass popularity of Type 100 and Integral films, many artists and most professional photographers used 4x5 sheet film by the case. Polaroid also produced many specialized 4x5" films for a variety of industrial markets.
